In 2006, Derek continued his career as manager of the BNSF Contract Maintenance account and relocated to Ft. Worth, Texas, in 2008. During his tenure, Derek led improvements in safety, fleet reliability and availability performance for the newly delivered SD70ACe locomotives. Derek was promoted to director of Contract Maintenance operations in 2012, where he had responsibility for all contract maintenance facilities and operations. During his four years in this position, Derek implemented safety programs, standard procedures, maintenance disciplines and operating principles across all maintenance operations. As the Progress Rail Customer Performance department continued to grow, Derek was promoted to Director of Customer Performance in 2016, with responsibility for contract maintenance, domestic and international field service, modifications, warranty and the repower team. In 2020, Derek was promoted to Vice President for Customer Performance.

Derek graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, minoring in Aerospace Engineering

Derek resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife Carol, three boys Jacob, Brett and Owen and daughter, Lauren. He and his family enjoy traveling, the outdoors and landscaping.
